Hi

I can't seem to print to a photosmart printer
From what I can tell in the logs ghostscript is trying to load hpijs whch dosesnt exist
I've never used a printer on linux before, any ideas?

If you are using a HP Photosmart type printer, then you should use net-print/hplip. Emerge it and then setup you printer via the CUPS web interface (localhost:631 in your browser). You might want to doublecheck if your printer is supported; the hplip website is http://hplipopensource.com/

I am using hplip
It does recognise the printer
It can read things like the state of the ink cartridges and its status

not sure what fixed it
used unstable hplip and cups and delete existing printers and re-running hp-setup again
