Hey everyone
I am new the forums and a TOTAL n00b to Gentoo and not that experienced in Linux configuration. So lets say I install Gentoo with out really tweaking the configuration that much (i.e i dont add any USE variable settings in make.conf, nor manually configure my kernel nor specify any certain modules to be loaded) will it be possible for me to configure these features later on after the installation with out having to reinstall the entire operating system over again? in other words, is it possible to just reconfigure the kernel later on and add new settings to make.conf later on with out having to rebuild gentoo from the very beginning?
All help will be GREATLY appreciated! |

Sure it'll be possible to do it later. Everything in Gentoo is tweakable at any time; it just may result in lots of recompiling. (Most Gentoo folks love that. )
However, if you don't do some of them up front (e.g., manually configuring the kernel), you're unlikely to be successful in the basic install process. Meaning, you may not even get a bootable system.

Welcome to Gentoo.
Yes you can do that.
I suppose you want genkernel to build your kernel.
Rebuilding your own kernel is no big deal.
Changing useflags will need something like
Please consult the handbook and make sure you d/l the right stage3.
Gerard. _________________ To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
You can follow the Handbook verbatim.
