|
|
Hi,
I've just installed Gentoo, and I have my KDE up and running, but I have this "problems":
1) I start kdm from root, but when I get the graphical login I cannot login with other user. Just root. If I try with another user, I get an ugly messege saying something about a widget. I have searched the forums and I haven't figured out why.
2) Is there a way to have multiple users loged in in kde on the same computer? I know that a computer can act as X-client, and have many remote X-sessions. But I would like to have the way XP has it.
3) If I'm listening music with xmms, and get messeges with kmess, i get all the sounds of kmess right after I stop xmms. How can I listen to them at the same time?
THANK YOU!!!
I hope not to be a duplicate thread! |

1. dont do that, do
Code: |
rc-update add kdm default
|
then reboot, you'll get the KDM menu on next boot
2. dont think so, though dont know
3. thats a common problem with linux, i just live with it:=) |

#2) You cannot do this locally as far as I know
#3) try reading some of the documentation on how ALSA works... it works great for me all the time.. the only time I run into errors is with kernel 2.6 sometimes |

#1, what that other person said
#2, many ways...easy way is to put the command to start kde (I think its startkde?) in that user's xsession's file, log that user and do a startx, then you can switch between the different sessions with ctrl+alt+F7, F8, etc
I might be wrong on a few details, im not on my Linux box now, but you get the idea...just start a new Xsession. You can also use a VNC server and client locally, thats cool too. And Gnome has by default a kind of program that let you create a new Xsession in a window from the current one...
#3 just use the XMMS arts plugin, problem solved. |
