|
|
The problem I suffer is that evolution-data-server is not killed after logout, then, after some days launching evolution, I end up with lots of evolution-data-server processes running, all of them look like this:
/usr/libexec/evolution-data-server-2.26 --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_DataServer_InterfaceCheck --oaf-ior-fd=26
If I manually run evolution --force-shutdown, they are killed, but I don't know why I manually need to run this
Also, seems that this is an old problem already reported in:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563100
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420167
The problem is that it seems to be not fixed, then, I want to let you know as, maybe, anybody suffered this poblem and knows what is wrong with evolution-data-server
Thanks a lot |

I post here my last comment in upstream report, seems that it's a problem with e-d-s+evolution-alarm-notify:
The problem seems to be related with evolution-alarm-notify being still alive
when I logout from my gnome-session:
1. Run evolution
2. Close it
3. $ ps axu | grep evo
pacho 8378 0.0 0.9 334404 20516 ? Sl 10:20 0:00
/usr/libexec/evolution-data-server-2.26
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_DataServer_InterfaceCheck
--oaf-ior-fd=23
pacho 8410 0.0 1.0 342908 22588 ? Sl 10:20 0:00
/usr/libexec/evolution/2.26/evolution-alarm-notify
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Calendar_AlarmNotify_Factory:2.26
--oaf-ior-fd=25
pacho 8900 0.0 0.0 9976 848 pts/0 R+ 10:22 0:00 grep
--colour=auto evo
4. Now, logout
---> evolution-alarm-notify is killed but evolution-data-server keeps running
forever
Now, try the following:
1. Run evolution
2. Close it
3. kill evolution-alarm-notify
4. If you wait a bit, e-d-s exits itself, if you don't wait and logout
directly, it's also properly killed

I too have this issue, and will add to the upstream post as well. It looks like this problem has been a "problem" for years on/off. It "appears" that upstream just wants to close the bug, but not actually work the issue...? many post out there on this issue.. Ubuntu and many other distros having this issue.

We will have to wait for 2.30 then, at least seems that it's fixed by new e-d-s (that drops bonobo)

Any idea when e-d-s-2.30 may make an appearance?
I have had this e-d-s keeps-running-after-logout for several years. Occasionally, I decide it's something that really annoys me, but I kick it down the street for a few minutes, then leave it alone.
For me, at work and at home, the user that e-d-s is running under (me) is not local to the machine - I use centralized LDAP auth-servers; it seems untidy to leave processes running after logout, when that user no longer "exists".
Thanks!
