I believe athlon xps actaully started out at 1300 mhz, and that was rated at 1400+, I have an athlon XP 1600+ and that is a 1.4 ghz chip. On to the problem, I have had lousy perfomance at times with locking up like that and my ram really was on its way down, it took me not using the computer for a few days for the thing to finally kick over, fortunately I bought crucial, so the only pain I had to experience was not having a computer until they sent me a new module. After that I actually started placing case fans in my computer, because in my former setup I had 0, so perhaps your cooling isn't quite up to snuff?
