I just had to replace my motherboard and video card. Now have Biostar P4m900-M4 v6.2 with nvidia g7200 in the PCIe slot.
Upgraded kernel to 2.6.30-gentoo-r6 and have activated PCIe slot, but not AGPGART(although I have tried it both ways). Emerged nvidia-drivers-180.60 and eselected nvidia opengl. When I reboot it defaults to terminal.
dmesg: IRQ 48/NVIDIA: IRQF_DISABLED is not guaranteed on shared IRQs
NVRM: request_irq() failed (-3
when I do startx I get:
NVIDIA: could not open device file /dev/NVIDIA0 (function not implemented)
NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize NVIDIA graphics device PCI:2:0:0
NVIDIA(0): Failed to initiate NVIDIA graphics device.
Since I am doing this on my windows drive I can't cut & paste information, but before my mb went bad I had no trouble with a 5200 nvidia card. Also, the new card obviously works fine with windows.
Any help would be appreciated. I figure the problem has to be in the kernel or nvidia-driver. I have tried numerous kernal configurations without success, but have not tried any other nvidia-drivers.
EDIT: I did not have ACPI enabled in the kernel. |
