okay i am having a major issue with gentoo and power management in xfce 4.6....should i use gnome power management tool or should i just do the wiki guide to power management because the wiki guide seems very complicated with installing alot of stuff adding another run level and having to modify config files to get it working....
i installed cpufreq util and i ran it and this is what happened...
Code: |
~ $ sudo cpufreq-info
cpufrequtils 005: cpufreq-info (C) Dominik Brodowski 2004-2006
Report errors and bugs to cpufreq@vger.kernel.org, please.
analyzing CPU 0:
no or unknown cpufreq driver is active on this CPU
analyzing CPU 1:
no or unknown cpufreq driver is active on this CPU
|
i also am running through battery like crazy...less than an hour and went from 100% down to 48% from conky both cores are running at 10% or less and ram is also at 10% or less....that is idle....but my cpu fan seems to be running full bore the entire time and my cpu is idle at 60-75C...
any suggestions? |

I think you might have forgotten to configure cpu frequency scaling in your kernel.
Or you do have configured it, but as a module and didn't load the modules.
Search for cpufreq*.
If you find a module like cpufreq_powersave or cpufreq_ondemand load it with
modprobe cpufreq_<your choice>
If you do not have the modules → back to configuring the kernel. _________________ Kali Ma

Hi again,
I don't use xfce so I'm not too sure, but have you tried the cpu frequency scaling plugin for the xfce-panel?
Have a look: http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-cpufreq-plugin
But no matter what userspace tool you use, you need to have the (right) cpu frequency governor drivers. Usually they're compiled with the kernel, either as modules or built in. _________________ Kali Ma
