Hey Everyone

I just finished installing Gnome from portage onto my new Gentoo System.. I am pretty excited.. I ran startx and i was able to get into my Gnome desktop. Only a few things are perplexing me: 1) when I try to click on the Applications menu, nothing shows up.. meaning no applications show up... I thought that installing gnome (and not gnome light which I wanted to previously install but changed my mind) would install a bunch of apps & games and what not?

Also I cant find a terminal on gnome... i clicked on all the menues and its not showing any xterm or any other type of terminal.... any idea how I can fix this?

yip, that's expected.

You are creating your own gnome basically. Remember this is just a more intelligent, painless way of Linux From Scratch, for lack of a better description :)

You can emerge gnome-games
Emerge pidgin, firefox, chromium-bin, vlc, what have you. You get only the packages you want, with zero or minimal bloat.

The aforementioned will show in Games, Internet, and Multimedia. You might want to snag openoffice or openoffice-bin while you're at it; the former means you compile everything from source (well, gentoo does it *for* you), the latter is a binary package so no real compilation required.

...or...now do you mean literally *nothing* under Applications, or do you mean "hardly anything" ? The latter is expected, the former would be very odd
