A major discovery here
if I download googleearth directly from google and install via
their bin file then googleearth runs just fine - no X crash
If I use emerge and the googleearth ebuild then X crashes
when I try to start googleearth?
Weird, huh? _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

There was a new version that showed up as an upgrade on my system just today. Does that one still crash? |

Yep, same one I have. Based on the backtrace, it looks like it may be related to your nvidia driver. What version are you using?
[UPDATE]Nevermind about the nvidia driver. The portage version does a symlink to libGLU. Maybe you should try this:
* The following libs have been linked symbolically:
* libGLU.so.1
* The package might not depend on these libs, so this may break.
* If the libs change, a reemerge of the package might be needed.
* Set MV_NO_LN_LIBS=true during emerge to skip this hack.
[/UPDATE] |
