I wanted to know if anyone with this notebook has had full success in installing Gentoo. I've tried installing Linux Mint, Fedora, and Ubuntu without success (something going on here and there).

So I would like to instead try out Gentoo since I've heard compiling stuff from source can make the most seemingly Linux unfriendly hardware work.

Thanks in advance.

Installing gentoo on most hardware the results are usually great if not outstanding and only get better as your experience with manually configuring a kernel increases. Noted that the manual kernel configuration is not an absolute requirement for most gentoo installations however the best results are often achieved by "feeding the beast what it desires most"

After installing Gentoo on every piece of hardware known to common man over five years... If Gentoo wouldn't work on your notebook I would be extremely suprised... Eat my hat even

In terms of hardware support on linux, it boils down to nothing more than...does the kernel support it.

If the kernel supports it, we can get gentoo on it (or really, we could get any *nix on it, but of course these are gentoo forums!)

Best thing to do - snag you a copy of SystemRescueCD, and either burn it to disk, or dump it onto a thumb drive (details here - avoid the Unetbootin way, it's been broken for some time)

Boot from it, take your lspci -n output, and paste it in the site mentioned in my signature.

Sharing lspci -v would be also useful for the folks on the forums, as has been mentioned already.

If it looks like there are drivers for everything, the hardware end will work fine - from there it's just tweaking things to your liking.
