|
|
1. During boot, i get alot of devfs messages about probeall not working
WARNING: /etc/modules.devfs line 26: ignoring bad linbe starting with 'probeall'
2. Even though i compiled module support in the new kernel for my nic 'via-rhine', and added it to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.5, and it shows in lsmod, but NOT ifconfig.
This is a onboard nic for a via chipset.
Any assistance would be great
thanks
Kernel 2.6.0-test4 btw

Could you post your dmesg output? If you are inserting your kernel modules manually, the output from that too. |

i do lsmod

soundcore
via-rhine
mii <-- says via-rhine next to it in [ ]
floppy
serial

on the livecd
dmesg shows
eth0: VIA VT6102 Rhine-II at 0xe800, 00:e0:4c:a2:27:a5, IRQ 11.
eth0: MII PHY found at address 1, status 0x786d advertising 05e1 link 45e1.
eth0: Setting Full duplex based on M11 #1 link partner capability of 45e1.
I hope this helps, this is driving me absolutly nuts |

more.. after reviewing demsg further i noticed lots of PCI IRQ queries that failed, and mentioned to try noapci, so i added that to my grub.conf on the kernel line as well as doing pci=noapci but in dmesg i still get those warnings. I know im getting closer. |

does this make since, i added pci=noapic in grub, one kernel will boot, and the other locks up. and Now magically my nic works in the one kernel. |

i also have a via-rhine and it took me 2 days to get it work correctly. for me the solution was to make it as module. otherwise even modprobe said module not found. (2.4.20).
also i had problems with ide-scsi (sg) which also wanted to be compiled as modules.
i own a gecom x5force and also sound is pain in the ass _________________ --free DNS at www.orgdns.org-- |

I finaklly got it working in 2.4, what i needed to do was add pci=noapic to grub.conf, and voila! However it WILL NOT work on 2.6 for the life of me. |
