I have a weird problem with my Gentoo server since I updated (emerge --update world) after te server was updated my internet connection fails after a while. When I reboot the server everything is ok and works fine, for a while. As long I don't use it too heavy I have no problems but when I start downloading a lot (start kazaa om my laptop f.e.) it will fail.
If that happens Iam no longer able to ping my ADSL ethernetmodem.
Manualy restarting my networkcards or iptables doen't work.
Except for de updated programs (don't know wich programs, a lot for sure) I made no changes to my configuration. I kept all my original configuration files except "make.globals"
The logfiles give no useable information.
I use my Gentoo server for the folowing services.
Samba for filesharing, dhcpd for dhcp, bind for DNS, postfix for mail, iptables for nat and firewall.
Can somebody help me? Iam desperate |

I had a similar problem with ee100 net driver. Try getting the latest version of the driver or update your kernel to the most recent version.
Also look into www.linux-laptop.net and see anyone over there duplicated the problem and found a fix for it. _________________ >>>>> Ignorance is bliss <<<<< |

Iam running the most resent version of the Linux kernel (vanilla 2.4.21)
Before that I used the most resent version of the Gentoo kernel. I switched to the vanilla kernel in the hope that it would solve my problem, but it didn't
What exactly do refer to on the "Linux for laptops" site? |

I replaced my networkcards for new ones and that solved my problem. It seems that the networkcard I used for my ADSL connection was broken.
That means that the problem was not coused by Gentoo |
