|
|
hi all,
i just upgraded to vanilla 2.4.22 and now the cpu-usage stays permanently at about 20%.
its a system thread, not a process.
top: Cpu(s): 8.2% user, 20.7% system, 0.0% nice, 71.2% idle
can somebody tell me how to find out which part of my sytem is using my cpu permanently or even how to solve this?
thanks a lot,

Do you use ACPI? There was a bug a few versions ago where ACPI made the system always consume 100% cpu power... try turning it off, if you use it, if you don't, nevermind _________________ if only I could fill my heart with love... |

I am experiencing the 20-24% constant cpu throttle as well and im using vanilla 2.4.21 from kernel.org. I am personally going to try using kernel 2.4.22 and only using ACPI cpu enumeration only. As I have a dual-p3 and it needs that ACPI support to enumerate the cpu's. _________________ "Envy is the ulcer of the soul." -Socrates

I went from 2.4.22 vanilla to the current gentoo sources and im still getting 20% system when it SHOULD be idle.. its constant 20-30%.. Im using a SMP kernel as I have a dual proc machine. Im thinking of trying a non-smp non-acpi to see if that makes a difference..
any suggestions?? _________________ "Envy is the ulcer of the soul." -Socrates

by cat /proc/interrupts (wait 1 min) then cat /proc/interrupts
Uou will notice if its problem relating to interrupts. Ive noticed that I have excessive interrupts from my USB core, I am running VIA Apollo Pro on my ASUS CUV4X-D board. _________________ "Envy is the ulcer of the soul." -Socrates
