First off, I apologize if I overlooked a guide or some posts on this, but I have been looking for a while and haven't found anything.

I am wondering if there is any good package available to handle mailing lists. We are currently using qmail, and would like something to automatically handle people [un]subscribing from a list, etc. Don't need web access or anything fancy like that at this point.

I know a while ago majordomo was a major player in mailing list software. Recently I've seen a lot of lists uses piper-mail, but that could just be a web interface to mailing list software -- I'm not sure.

Does anyone know of any good packages out there (preferably emerge-able ones)?

Thanks for you time.

Aaron

Just taking a quick look in the net-mail group I only see 2 mailing list packages (it was a fast scan though so I could be wrong).

Basically it's ezmlm or mailman.

ezmlm is what you'll need if it's a really incredibly high traffic list, but it requires qmail.

mailman is a much more commonly used and has a web interface, but is masked in portage.

I have used Ezmlm, Mailman and Mojo mail professionally. All 3 are good, the latter one the easiest to install and maintain IMHO.

Mojo mail is not in portage, but it's a perl script. You're better off installing yourself. See:

Hrmmm... Alright i've emerge ezmlm and I have qmail....

Using the Quickstart guide found here:
http://www.ezmlm.org/faq-0.40/FAQ-2.html

I follow all the steps... But when i send an email to list@host.net get a MAILER-DAEMON@host.net failure notice saying:
Code:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name.

But if I send an email to username-list@host.net it works. How do i make the list goto just list@host.net?

i tried majordomo, but didnt like it - i now use mailman - installed it manually at a time when there was no ebuild - and am happy with it ever since...
