Does anyone knows if there is a md5crypt command that given a password it generates a md5 encrypted version.
I also want a program that given a password and the hash previously calculated it verifies if the password is correct.
Are there analogue tools for sha (in its variants) and other encryption methods ? |

Have you checked out the command md5sum? It should be part of the sys-apps/coreutils, which is a core gentoo package.
There appear to be a handful of ebuild in portage related to SHA, but I'm not as familiar with them, so I'm not sure what to recommend in this case. |

For my system authentication perl scripts, I use dev-perl/Crypt-PasswdMD5 to handle md5 encryption of passwords. The hashes are then compared with simple equality operators with what's read from /etc/shadow... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

md5sum only performs an hash, it is different from md5-crypt algorithm |
