boot disk doesn't recognize keyboard

I've tried googling and searching the forum, and not turned up anything.

I'm installing on an AMD 64 bit system, and my usb keyboard is recognized in bios and at the boot: prompt, but not after that. I've tried toggling on/off the bios option to support usb keyboards. I've looked around the bios, and can't find any more options that look like they might contribute. How do I get the boot disk to recognize the keyboard after the boot: prompt?

Use a system rescue cd in place of the minimal cd. Enter rescue64 at the boot prompt if intending a 64 bit install. Additional advantages include a gui with firefox.

i agree with the upper postings - try it out.
I'm also mostley using the systemrescuecd - nice, actual and small gentoo livecd /tool.

Something additional exotic trouble i have had once in the past...

If your keyboard is connected via a kvm (switch). Make sure that its input is active /switched.
Or if it works with auto - recognition, it could fail sometimes.
I had to remove it at one trouble PC only for the first installation :wink:

I never figured out what the problem was, I just used an adapter to plug in the keyboard as ps/2 during the install, and after that it works fine as a usb keyboard.

Ah,

seems to be similar to my trouble with the KVM switch, cause after the first installation everything works as expected with the pluged kvm switch.

With mainboards with a PS/2 connector i've seen more often trouble when connecting a Input device via USB instead.

Although when using an adapter to convert PS/2 to USB or opposite.

So if someone else has trouble with the recognition, try to connect it as constructed in case of trouble.

Good to know that i'm not the only one...

I wouldn't say that this is solved, because the keyboard should work in the install disk, perhaps with an option to the kernel. All I did was find a workaround, not a solution.
