When I insert the CD, I have to manually mount it.
How do I make it so that GNOME automatically mounts it and shows the icon on the desktop?
I have DBus, HAL, udev and GNOME all running..
Did I misconfigure something?

Edit - I think this is the wrong forum oops
And another question:
When I shut down the computer, the icons and panels disappear but I still have the wallpaper and mouse. I have to CTRL+ALT+F2 and use init 0 to shut down. Anyone know the solution?

Could you post your emerge --info?
Also, you could add to /etc/fstab on the cdrom/dvdrom device a users option so that users will be able to mount them.

/etc/fstab

If you want that Gnome mount your cdrom, and show the icon in your desktop, you must remove the cdrom line in /etc/fstab

In fact, make sure that nothing can touch your CD/DVD beside the automounter.

My groups:
Code:
wheel audio cdrom video games usb users portage plugdev joe

And I'm using gnome 2.26 from the portage tree.

I removed my cdrom entry in fstab, will try rebooting to see what happens.

EDIT:
Removing the fstab entry did it!
Your a genius peratu! :D

Any ideas on how to fix the shutdown issue though? When I click shutdown the panels, applications, and desktop icons all disappear but it freezes with the wallpaper still there and the mouse still working.
Using init 0/6 works but I just want to fix everything :D
