Hello Everyone,

This my first post here in the Forums.

I have been Gentoo as a hardened firewall with grsecurity patch for quite sometime and I am very happy with it.

Now I have tried to make this firewall an installable ISO so i can use it in some other places but could not find the right how to or guide.

Can any one kindly guide me on how to do it?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thnaks

Al

http://www.sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_How_to_personalize_SystemRescueCd is a good place to start if you want to build a cd that you can boot and then run the firewall from the cd system.
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Custom_Stage4 if you want to copy your firewall system and then paste it to other computer hard drives.

Hey DONAHUE

Thanks for reply.

What I am looking for is more of a method how to make a customized gentoo where it it asks
for everything to be filled from time setting to network settings.

Appreciate the help.

I don't know if this is the correct way.....or even if it will work, but...
I THINK what you want to do is write a script to configure the system, create an ISO where the kernel starts at byte 0 on the disk al la 'dd'. Then probably create a filesystem within the ISO to store the usual linux files, point the kernels root to the file system you created, copy your script over and add it to the default run level. The script will partition the hd's, copy over the files and write the correct values into the config files. Burn the ISO to a cd and boot it.

Then again this doesn't take into account different architectures and hardware. Your kernel will most likely have to be a genkernel and you will probably need a couple different "installations" compiled for different architectures.

What I would do instead would be downloading a gentoo minimal cd. write a script that goes through the commands of installing a gentoo system with a genkernel and also to get configuration values from the user, mount the ISO (gentoo minimal cd), write the script on the ISO, burn it, boot it, run the script. 2 - 16 hours later, you have a fully emerged working gentoo system.

P.S. I'm half drunk right now

somewhat off topic -

I don't know if you've considered alternatives, but I've had great results with http://m0n0.ch/wall/
