|
|
hello,
i currently have a user account with it's home directory directly in /home (_not_ something like /home/yusername>). now, i want to rename this user, but i don't want to loose my settings. would it work if i just go to /etc and rename the user in all necessary files (passwd, group etc.)? or, could i delete the existing user, create a new one with the _same_ homedir? would this delete/overwrite anything in my homedir? ok i' have to chown all my files, but that's no problem i guess.
i'd appreciate your help!!

from man usermod:
Quote: | -l login_nameThe name of the user will be changed from login to login_name. Nothing else is changed. In particular, the user's home directory name should probably be changed to reflect the new login name. |
