Update portage before bootstrap?

I am continuing building my gentoo system (having loads of problems, but that's part of tge fun

). Anyway, I've have just done the emerge sync and portage said that I newer version of portage is available and it recommends to update now before I do anything else. Should I do that now? Even though I've not run bootstrap.sh yet?

Sorry, just realised that that is a dumb question.... I haven't installed any version of portage yet, just what was in the tar.

Oops, starting to bootstrap now.
