this guy here is the only one to get sound over the HDMI cable: http://artem-astafyev.blogspot.com/2008/11/hdmi-audio-in-linux-running-on-apple-tv.html

he says however that his method only works with nv driver or 100.14.19 nvidia driver. does his patch method even work in gentoo? which one should i get? this is what i am using now:

is 100.14.19 nvidia driver still supported in emerge? what is its name? how would i use the nv driver? i searched in menuconfig for "nv" and i dont get any hits. pls shed some light on this.

how would i emerge nvidia-drivers-100.14.19? is there such a package in gentoo?
