Hi there!
I'm running linux right now and I want to install gentoo to a unused partition. How do I do that?
I guess,
creating a filesystem,
mount that partition in /mnt/gentoo
chroot to that partition and then continue to read the handbook?
What other things are there to remember?
Not to run grub since that is configured from the current linux version? |

Installing from a running linux is the same as from an install-cd.
Better read the handbook first.
You cannot chroot into an empty partition.
Gerard.
Edit:If your existing linux is 32 bits you cannot install 64 bits and vice versa. _________________ To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
You can follow the Handbook verbatim.

Also, make sure that if you want to install a Gentoo 64 bits and you a running a 32 bits installation right now, you better use SystemRescueCD or an another LiveCD to install your Gentoo box, because you will not be able to chroot your box. |
