I've never seen this status before and don't know how to go about diagnosing it.
I'm on a Toshiba M3 using an ipw2200.

This system used to work, at one time and then I reinstalled gentoo and I've not been able to get wireless to work consistency since, although I have gotten it to work on occasion. (Seems random).

I've got an open access wireless port, and the wicd network manager sees it but is unable to get IP address. (This seems to happen at other access points as well, it can see it but can't get an ip address).

When I do an
Code:

/etc/init.d/net.eth1 status
* status: crashed

The crashed status seems to happen whenever I use the WiCd network manager.

Any ideas on how to track this down?

:P It looks like wicd-1.6.2.2 is buggy, I unmasked 1.7.0_alpha3 and it started to work. Although the status still says crashed. (weird)
