velocity.sourceforge.net
- 0.1beta, nice file manager, but rox is a bit lighter.
endeavour2
- in portage tree, I personaly don't like it, but worth testing.
nautilus
- gnome standard.
and the kde standard, konquerer.
nautilus and konquerer needs a rather big amount of libraries for their system, and is a bit big imho :/ |

well... i use fluxbox.. so i am not too keen on big libs.
rox is just a little buggy.
is there some major alternative? _________________ WEBSITE

I really like Velocity.
I use it with XFCE as I do not want the honkin nautilus fm.
It is definietly beta, with features not here or there, but I love it, and it looks like it is going to be awesome once more features are added. _________________ Face it, we are all noobs.
On the box it said it was designed for Win XP or better, so why won't it work with Linux? |

You could also give krusader a try. It's a midnight commander clone and runs smoothly under many WindowMangers. Nevertheless, some of the KDE libs are still required |

If you really like light/fast filemanagers with not a lot of eye candy try:
emelfm or gentoo
I prefer gentoo since it is alittle bit faster and is more configurable. Both are in portage. _________________ I do not consider it an insult, but rather a compliment to be called an agnostic. Konqueror is really nice, even if it is a bit big. It's definitely the best looking in my opinion, and it's a tad slow to load if you aren't using KDE, but once it loads it runs well. The thumbnail-popup-windows for all the files are just great. There's a nice thread here that explains how to compile Konqueror without compiling KDE in its entirety, which will cut down on some of the bloat.
I think the fastest file manager is bash + tab completion though. Faster than any graphical manager I've used. |

How about the default XFCE4 filemanager? I think it's called xffm or something. _________________ Registered Linux User #263260 |

Maybe I'm just a neanderthal but I found the XFCE4 file manager to be difficult to use and rather annoying. Hmm... maybe it's time I make my own file manager. _________________ * Blessing /dev/hda2 with holy penguin pee |
