PostPosted: Wed Jan 13, 2010 7:47 am    Post subject: fbsplash replay, console Reply with quote

This is a good a choice of forum category for this,

I have fbsplash emerged and it seems to be doing all the right things except for replay.
From the conf file in /etc/conf.d/splash, it says

Quote:

Save splash profile information during boot? If set to 'yes', a record
# of the boot-up sequence will be kept in /lib/splash/cache/profile. The
# profile file is useful for debugging purposes .....

so I enabled it

Quote:

SPLASH_PROFILE="yes"

I have rebooted a few times now with the splash screen working fine. Then trying to invoke the replay option produces nothing.

Code:

idella@genny ~ $ sudo splash_manager -c replay -t Emergance --tty=1
Password:
idella@genny ~ $

Now here is a clue

Code:

idella@genny ~ $ ls -l /lib/splash/cache/profile
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 13 14:11 /lib/splash/cache/profile

The file is empty.
Question one: Does anyone know how to get it to write the bootup to the file??

This is less important, but nevertheless a problem. The splash_manager is supposed to perform many things.
When invoking the demo command, it plays up. I have TWO gentoos, one with kde 3.5, and a current one.
In kde3.5, when I run the splash_manager, it draws error re the screen resolution. e.g.

Code:

idella@gentoo /usr/src $ sudo splash_manager -c demo -t Enterprise --tty=1
Error: Theme 'Enterprise' doesn't seem to provide a config file for the current resolution (640x480).
idella@gentoo /usr/src $ sudo splash_manager -c demo -t Mandrake-10.0 --tty=1
Error: Theme 'Mandrake-10.0' doesn't seem to provide a config file for the current resolution (640x480).
idella@gentoo /usr/src $ sudo splash_manager -c set -t Mandrake-10.0 --tty=1
Error: Theme 'Mandrake-10.0' doesn't seem to provide a config file for the current resolution (640x480).

The screen res is actually 1600x1200. For some reason, it's reading the res at this low level. This may be a kde problem, it's fine in kde 4.
Question 2, Can the splash_manager be made to see the correct resolution?

Finally, a console question.
When the splash_manager does set it to a tty, the instructions say to use ctl alt F2 to view the image.
After going to the console, it has a login prompt. What is the X command to return to the normal kde session?
