Hi,
I did a Gentoo stage 3 install on my multiboot Dell Desktop x86 and managed to get it going with a gnome desktop but it fails to shut down from the desktop. Searches suggested this was a problem with sharing a /home partition with other distributions so I now mount /home in my Gentoo root partition and mount the shared home as /data. I have also changed user names so they are unique, e.g. not shared with other distributions. However the problem remains.
When I shut down from the desktop's menu the desktop is cleared leaving the wallpaper and the computer then hangs, only the mouse pointer is active. After several minutes the screen saver activates; I can then move the mouse which brings up the screen to enter the password to resume. I use the switch user to take me to a screen with the option to shut down. It does shut down from here. It has been like this since the install.
Any ideas? _________________ My time machine is broken which is odd because it was working tomorrow.

Thanks. That works fine.
Googleing "consolekit bug hal" has made me think this is a workaround to resolve a dependency issue, but it works! _________________ My time machine is broken which is odd because it was working tomorrow. |
