SOMEHOW I'm working in gnome and writing this message to the forum. At bootup my kernel isn't detecting my drives. This didn't happen yesterday, and it seems my GDM got downgraded. This is very tedious. Also, when I fdisk -l, it returns zero results. What could be happening???? Well, at least it somewhat works at the moment. Can I get some help? I think it's something with udev.

Did you upgrade udev recently?

Seems a lot of people have gotten bitten by the kernel version+kernel config needed for the latest version of udev (146?) to work properly. Check if this is the case.

That sounds like a recent release. Did you check your startup warnings about kernel options?

I masked off 146 and higher on my machines I haven't upgraded the kernel on because of this issue... I'll need to upgrade the kernels soon...

Downgrading fixed it. I probably should switch from 2.6.31 to 32 soon.
