I'm going to soon be finished with the instlalation of gentoo, and it seems the howtos are quite good for getting my rqadeon card set up for 3d acceleration in gentoo, BUt as a percaution, should I isntall xfree86 first, and THEN use the howtos (most likly for the DRI drivers) or should I do it all in one step?

Thanks.

It doesn't really matter which way you do it. You'll obviously need to install X first, otherwise the howto's won't be much good, as they assume it's installed, but you don't need to emerge X and then set up the drivers straight away.
