I have a .vob file I ripped from a dvd that I would like to put in a different container (without recompressing). Any suggestions on the "best" container, and which tools I should use? It seemss mencoder only supports .avi and .mpeg (does .avi still have a 2 GiB limit?). Thank you in advance. |

I don't think AVI even takes mpeg2. Matroska is probably the best option. Install mkvtoolnix with the wxwidgets USE flag and you'll get mmg, a nice GUI to create matroska files. Why do you want to change the container anyway if you're not going to recompress? |

Good question. Unless the device the OP is targeting a device that doesn't support .vob files there really isn't much point in changing containers. _________________ Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once.

I can think of a few reasons:
- add subtitles
- remove some audio tracks
- custom metadata
- chapter support
Oh, all supported by Matroska. _________________ If it ain't broke, tweak it. dvds | blurays | blog | wiki |
