I've perused the many different guides for setting up email here and on the docs page and perhaps I've overlooked something but I can't find anything that addresses what I want to do.
Currently I have my nat/firewall/etc. box also set up as my mail server. It pulls mail from my ISP via fetchmail, slices and dices via procmail and the results get sorted into different mailboxes, all within ~/.maildir. I've been reading/sending by using mutt running in a terminal on that machine. This all works fine - I can send/receive mail to my hearts content without error. I can also send mail from my desktop machine using my server as a relay (postfix) and everything is happy.
What I want to do is set up a server on that machine (imap/pop3/whatever works), that allows me to pull over all of those mailboxes intact and read them via sylpheed-claws on my desktop machine, keeping the mail on the server machine. I've tried setting up pop3 and imap, but I've not figured out how to get more than the default inbox via those routes, when I really want all the mailboxes in that directory.
Have I missed discussion on doing this? Is it feasable? Any gentle nudges toward TFM that I can R would be appreciated.

I had the same setup. The problem I found was the directories the mail was being sent to had to start with a period (hidden). (ie ~/.maildir/.gentoo-dev) and have the cur/new/tmp directories in there. Once I did that I was able to subscribe to them with evolution, not sure if sylpheed-claws has a similar feature but i would imagine so if it supports IMAP. |
