Problem: Make install failed for printer-applet-4.3.5 and system-config-printer-kde-4.3.5. Any idea? Thanks.

Code:
>>> Install printer-applet-4.3.5 into /var/tmp/portage/kde-base/printer-applet-4.3.5/image/ category kde-base
>>> Working in BUILD_DIR: "/var/tmp/portage/kde-base/printer-applet-4.3.5/work/printer-applet-4.3.5_build"
make -j5 install DESTDIR=/var/tmp/portage/kde-base/printer-applet-4.3.5/image/

Hi robbyjo,

do what portage says here:

Code:
Messages for package net-print/cups-1.4.2-r1:

 * For information about installing a printer and general cups setup
 * take a look at: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printing-howto.xml

 * Messages for package x11-libs/qt-core-4.6.0:

 * After a rebuild or upgrade of Qt, it can happen that Qt plugins (such as Qt
 * and KDE styles and widgets) can no longer be loaded. In this situation you
 * should recompile the packages providing these plugins. Also, make sure you
 * compile the Qt packages, and the packages that depend on it, with the same
 * GCC version and the same USE flag settings (especially the debug flag).
 *
 * Packages that typically need to be recompiled are kdelibs from KDE4, any
 * additional KDE4/Qt4 styles, qscintilla and PyQt4. Before filing a bug report,
 * make sure all your Qt4 packages are up-to-date and built with the same
 * configuration.
 *
 * For more information, see http://doc.trolltech.com/4.6/plugins-howto.html

I have had a lot of cups trouble too, including that the system-config-printer-kde entry disappeard and the printer applet too.
Maybe my problem was a little different, cause my printer stooped working with ~cups packages, i've got it working only with the last stable package. But the printer can and should configured through the cups gui as shown here:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/de/printing-howto.xml?style=printable

But if your printer works, you may skip this, and trie the portage hints first.

Andy.

Actually I've updated KDE to the latest version (4.3.5) and updated PyQt4, etc. But it didn't work. The problem seems to be in either portage or the ebuild. Both of these compiled fine, but they borked at the installation phase.

Got it fixed. Reemerge pycups, as prescribed by:
