|
|
Hi folks,
I've a problem with sound hardware...
in detail, alsaconf knows my card and configures it and tip me to unmute mixer...ok i've done it!
KMix shows me all information and if I play sound all work fine, but no sound goes in output...
iMac and macbook-pro have nVidia controller...
Thanks for help

On my MacBook Pro the system showed everything sound related as fine but didn't play any sound. I solved it by using the alsa-driver-9999 and throwing also out of the kernel.
It maybe could help enabling sound on your IMac. _________________ Linux User #422770 |

You probably have to pass model option to snd-hda-intel module. In example, something like this:
Code: |
#echo "options snd-hda-intel model=model_name" >> /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf
|
You will have to consult HD-Audio-models.txt for exact model_name, but for start you could try with imac-intel or imac-intel-20 model name. |

Hi,
this is my sound's dmesg:
Code: |
HDA Intel 0000:00:08.0: PCI INT A -> Link[LAZA] -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
HDA Intel 0000:00:08.0: setting latency timer to 64
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LGPU] enabled at IRQ 21
nvidia 0000:03:00.0: PCI INT A -> Link[LGPU] -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21
nvidia 0000:03:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 185.18.36 Fri Aug 14 17:35:21 PDT 2009
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC889A, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
|
EDIT: for the last row, I've resolved it adding in alsa.conf: options snd-hda-intel model=imac24...Altough kmix now displays Nvidia controller, i don't hear any sound!
And this, aplay -l :
Code: |
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC889A Analog [ALC889A Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC889A Digital [ALC889A Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

With gentoo 10 live, the computer goes freeze when xdm was executed! |
strange, try kernel parameters. _________________ Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein |

Hi DevOne - sadly, DaggyStyle might have the easiest suggestion, but the thing that's odd is that your dmesg shows HDA Intel hardware and Nvidia hardware. My previous gen core2 mini uses the HDA intel sound card:
Code: |
[jba@toro][06:28:09][~]> aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: STAC92xx Digital [STAC92xx Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
|
And uses the HDA Intel driver:
Code: |
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: SigmaTel Device 7680
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
|
Maybe it's worth looking into what that subsystem is doing in the new macs? I'm interested as i'm thinking of upgrading to a c2d mini in order to go 64bit. |

Hi...currently i've 2 mac: iMac24 and macbook-pro (among other things, i'm also an iphone developer)
On iMac24 all goes ok except for ALSA that is successfully installed, but i'm not able to hear sound
On macbook-pro, disaster!
Nothing work, alsacard is not found at boot time, USB pendrive gives problem on partition type, bluetooth seems found, but it'doesn't work!
wifi problem with configuration (i've used b43 module kernel, b43-fwcutter, but nothing) _________________ Real-time cooperative softair: http://www.softairrealfight.net

Uhmm....
I wrote this:
Code: | cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec |
And it shows me that:
Code: |
Codec: Generic 1013 ID 4206
|
That above on macbook-pro
Now, i'm not an expert, but that above seems a little bit strange becouse of my Nvidia sound card! _________________ Real-time cooperative softair: http://www.softairrealfight.net
