|

Hi all,
I am doing a new installation using the 1.1a iso image and I'm getting the following error when I attempt 'emerge rsync'
# emerge rsync
>>> Note: /etc/make.profile isn't available; an 'emerge sync' will probably fix this.
>>> starting rsync with rsync://cvs.gentoo.org/gentoo-x86-portage...
rsync: getaddrinfo: cvs.gentoo.org 873: Temporary failure in name resolution
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(89)
If I go to another console (Alt-F2), I am able to ping cvs.gentoo.org just fine.
# ping cvs.gentoo.org
PING cvs.gentoo.org (207.170.79.20): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 207.170.79.20: icmp_seq=2 ttl=242 time=37.6 ms
64 bytes from 207.170.79.20: icmp_seq=3 ttl=242 time=30.0 ms
--- cvs.gentoo.org ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 30.0/36.7/40.1 ms
So, why would this be failing? Help please.

After a little work on the resolv.conf file, the problem was fixed.
Seems the dhcp server I am using has served up two different sets of resolution servers between when I copied the resolv.conf and when I rebooted to continue the installation.
Just 'cuz dhcpcd creates the resolv.conf file for me each time from the install CD, doesn't mean it automatically gets copied to my install directories. I learn.
