When you broke your python installation, which happened to me lately, you can manually download a python version to your needs and compile it at http://mirrors.kernel.org/gentoo/distfiles
For example I did the following as super user:
Code: | cd /usr/src
wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/gentoo/distfiles/Python-2.6.4.tar.bz2
tar -xf Python-2.6.4.tar.bz2
cd Python-2.6.4
./configure --prefix /usr
make
make install

This will create a /usr/bin/python binary, which is wrong
Code: | ln -s /usr/bin/python2.6 /usr/bin/python |
Now try python-updater
If you are using Porthole you have to unmerge this and emerge it again.
