Hi guys,
please don't ask why (me <= dumb*ss ), but yesterday I removed Lvm2 from my running gentoo system by 'emerge --unmerge lvm'. Today I recognized my fault because all virtual drives weren't available at all
Using the installation cd, I am able to mount all drives manually and then to chroot into that system. But then, a "emerge -av lvm2" throws an error about that "sys-fs/device-mapper" is blocking sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.56-r2
There I'm stuck I just want to re-install lvm2 to be able to use the system again - is there the possibility to use the lvm2 in the same version it has been used before the removal? Maybe it's still present in the portage/sys-fs/lvm2-tree? |

As I see it, you don't need sys-fs/device-mapper anymore to run an MD RAID/LVM setup. On my stable server I have sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.56-r2 and no sys-fs/device-mapper.
I guess the wisest thing would be to run an emerge -uD world from you chrooted environment, install the current version of lvm2 and get rid of device-mapper in the process. |

hmm, now it complains about sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.14.8 blocking sys-apps/util-linux-2.16.2 which seems to be required by lvm2-2.02.56-r2 ...
Is there a chance to see which version of lvm2 has been used just before the removal? I guess that installing that version should not introduce any new errors... |

z0ttel,
Everything you ever emerged is in /var/log/emerge.log.
Code: | grep lvm /var/log/emerge.log | will show it every time its been installed an removed. _________________ Regards,
