Why do the livecds not have a basic firewall script included? I know there would need to be some tweaks made for your configuration, but it would help out people getting started with Gentoo.

I keep a copy of my firewall script on another drive and on a cd, so I'm covered in the event of wipeout.

Perhaps I'm getting paranoid from viewing my snort logs.

Maybe you are being a tad paranoid. When you start the liveCD, there are no services started, and not much of a reason to firewall traffic. If you wanted to put a machine booted via liveCD on your public network for an extended period of time, I would suggest remastering your own liveCD with custom firewall script. If you have a special application that requires firewalling and running off CD, you can try using KNOPPIX, which can be customized to your liking.
