What if there was a database that stored various '.config's for various pre-built computers, such as laptops and netbooks. Just an idea. |

Well it stores independent configuration files of various programs which are actually created automatically, I'd personally like to start with default configuration, I think good idea would be to have a database of make.conf, maybe /etc/portage and 'suggested' packages (probably patch of /var/lib/portage/world or something that could give particular packages) let's say you bought laptop with synaptics touchpad and a few other specific devices and you want to setup everything in easy way without explicitly searching for drivers, specific device control software etc. I have setup linux on many laptops, each time I was using really helpful wiki pages and linux on linux on laptop databases, but to have something functional specifically for gentoo would rock IMHO. |

I said the kernel config, not make.conf. |

Oh yeah, misread it. Thought you are talking about application configurations.

No I'm not. I'm simply talking about the kernel config. Nothing else. Just configs for certain models of computers, |

In fact, Pappy makes a lot of kernel configs nowadays and it's pretty awesome |
