Hi folks,
I've got a 4.1 speaker set and I can't bring the rear speakers to work. I've tried fiddling with the commands
Code:
amixer set '3D Control - Depth' 50%
amixer set '3D Control - Center' 50%
amixer set '3D Control - Switch' on

but it doesn't work: only the front speakers make some sound.
I've got a terratec dmx xfire 1024 with a Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01) audio controller, running on alsa latest emerge version (0.9.2).
Has anyone got a clue?

Thanks,
Zerbet

ps: here's the output of amixer:

nope it doesn't work: I don't have any 'wave surround' mixing possibility, just the '3d control - *' elements, that of course don't work. I've notived that when touching the 3d depth mixer, sound gets a bit more quiet on the front speakers, but the rear speakers don't play a tune.

Thanks for your proposal, though.

Yeah, a few people have had this problem with cs46xx cards. I have a hercules fortissimo III / 5.1 setup, with surround working.

The first couple of posts here are relevant. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/55236

You want to upgrade from 0.9.2 to 0.9.6. You'll need to specify the ebuild directly.

if
Code:
aplay -D pcm.rear test.wav
works, you have a chance. If not, fiddle with your alsamixer settings.

I added a few lines to my /etc/asound.conf, which now reads

Code:
pcm.cs46xx {
        type hw
        card 0
}
ctl.cs46xx {
        type hw
        card 0
}

pcm.!default{
        type plug
        slave {
                pcm surround40
        }
        route_policy default
        ttable.0.0 1
        ttable.1.1 1
        ttable.0.2 1
        ttable.1.3 1
}

the pcm.!default bit being the addition I made. This was from a german site I found on Google, I don't speak german, and have no idea what this is actually doing. This seems to make the surround40 (mirrored stereo to back, i think) the default. However, as far as I can tell, this only works with native alsa applications, not the oss layer. So test with alsaplayer or something.

If anyone can recommend a good alsa-aware audio player that doesn't skip when I load a web page, it would be appreciated...
