I've been running compiz-fusion 0.8.4 for a few weeks now. After upgrading compiz to compiz-0.8.4-r2 yesterday, now when I start compiz-manager it starts eating up 100% cpu until it eventually just freezes and gives a black screen. The black screen is after I switch consoles back and forth. Looking at htop, it appears that for a while glxinfo eats up 100% of the cpu, and then compiz itself does. The only debug messages I get are:
Code:

compiz-manager --debug
Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0098 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: present.
Comparing resolution (1920x1200) to maximum 3D texture size (4096): Passed.
Checking for nVidia: present.
Checking for FBConfig: present.
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Starting gtk-window-decorator
/usr/bin/compiz (core) - Debug: Could not stat() file /home/echalon/.compiz/plugins/libcore.so : No such file or directory
/usr/bin/compiz (core) - Debug: Could not stat() file /usr/lib/compiz/libcore.so : No such file or directory
/usr/bin/compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format

It takes a while for those "Checking..." statements to run through, which is why I was able to tell that glxinfo was taking up so much cpu.

Any suggestions on how to get further clues as to what's going on?
