|
|
So the thing is, i need to run a server called Adobe Version Cue on a new linux box i just built.
this is just one of the services that this box provides.
That server will only run on Windows. so i need to run windows in linux somehow.
i doubt it'll run on wine
i might have to run it on VMWare.
so here's what i'm thinking
i install Xorg (didn't want to do this on a headless server)
slim (for autologon)
fluxbox (or just xfce or whatever the default one is called)
that will launch vmware on login to boot up windows.
and i think i'll give the vmware image a real ntfs drive to use. (which is actually a raid5 disk)
my question is, how do i run X headless? i've only ever done it with gnome/gdm
or, if you have any other ideas on how i can accomplish this without X, that would be cool too.
thanks, _________________ help the needy |

VMWare doesn't need X (it has a Firefox plugin that works like VNC) and you can start it as a service using an initscript. |

I would suggest you firewall the VM so *only* that service is available to the rest of the network.
That way you lessen the risk of getting nailed by something. |
