I'm having a problem with the desktop effects on KDE4, but can't seem to find much help on this.
Is there any way to use the desktop effects opengl renderer, or to speed up xrender?
Everything is moving quite slowly when I minimize a window, maximize a window or close a window, and X is using 40-50% cpu at all times.
Any solutions? _________________ Sysadmin of Ubuntu systems and servers....

Have you tried the ati open source driver? Code: | ~ # grep radeon /etc/make.conf
VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" |
Code: | ~ # grep radeon /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Driver "radeon" |
Code: | ~ $ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes |
Code: | ~ # qlist -I x11-drivers
x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev
x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati |

From what I can tell, you're correct. Couldn't hurt to try at this point though. _________________ Sysadmin of Ubuntu systems and servers....

It's unlikely that the KDE version has anything to do with it. Post the output of these please:- eselect rc show
- egrep '^\((W|E)' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
