I was wondering, if doing a big emerge (like emerge kde-metadata for example) and the computer hangs during so you have to restart with the button, if you type the same emerge again will it resume and be complete? |

You can use this to do that:
Any idea what caused the sudden hang/shutdown? |

I dont remember exactly what it said but something weird with hd sectors and it could fix it but needed a reboot. I had to manually reboot with the button. If it types a long error code in verbose mode, how do you scroll up to read it?
Anyway I typed the same emerge and its at it again, now with colors for the text |

In a console or terminal, you can generally scroll up with the Shift+PgUp keys. |

Before the HDD fails on you, emerge smartmontools and post the output of smartclt -a <your HDD> _________________ My blog |

Before the HDD fails on you, make sure you have a backup

For backup, double check Stage 4 or Stage 5 backup method. |

also, never reset using the button... it'll either reboot with ctrl-alt-del or with alt-sysrq-RSEIUB... if it doesn't, start buying new hardware. _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

To do a "nice" reboot press Alt-SysRq-R and then Ctrl-Alt-Del |

I want an easy life with linux. What I really want though is to install source code directly to the brain |
