I dont know if it could be the mirrors i was originally using, might have not had the proper files? I doubt it... anyone have any idea how I should go about fixing this issue up? |

This is probably not very appealing if you are on a slow or metered connection. |

this looks like you were still on the livecd system and not in the chroot when trying to emerge gentoo-sources |

It's a discrepancy between the metadata and the distfile.
All that's required to fix it is running:
Those errors pop up from time to time, maybe 3-5 times a year or so if you sync every single day.
It's when the portage maintainers forget to update the metadata for a certain package.
No big deal really, it's harmless and usually fixed within minutes. |

HI,
The problem seems to have solved itself.
I kept on doing:
Code: |
emerge gentoo-sources
|
and it just started working.
Never have seen this problem in 5 years of running gentoo.
Sincerely,
Don James |

This problem needs to be fixed right now.

How often do stealth bumps happen?
I've seen things like this happen before of all the years of Gentoo. I think most of the time someone makes a stealth fix to one of the distfiles but forgets to update portage, someone updates the portage metadata with a local copy of source files which doesn't match the rest of the data that's out there in the world, or someone stealth bumps external packages making portage's cached metadata out of data... all leading to errors like this... Should file a bug report on bugs.gentoo.org if something like this happens.
It's good that these things are caught but I'm worried that I'm going to just blow off all these issues as simple mistakes or desync, as it is a method of intrusion...
(The other scary thing is that I've had in the past are hash check failures when filesizes match...) I normally attribute that to bad hardware but sometimes repeated downloads result in the same corrupt file until I resynched portage - portage metadata was out of date... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
