I was following the install procedure and had just finished installing my kernel.

emerge -k sys-kernel/gentoo-sources
|
After that I tried to emerge nforce-net but upon typing
I got the following error:
bash: /usr/bin/emerge: No such file or directory
Where on earth did emerge go?! Any idea how to get it back? /sbin/ifconfig shows a working ethernet and pinging still works.. |

| well i cant be sure what happened, but somewhere in /usr/portage is a rebuild for portage, although it sounds like you just lost the emerge command and not portage, try man emerge/ebuild to see if its still there |
