Ok I got directory color's to work by typing ls --color but ls doesnt do it. where can I go to change it so ls automaticaly uses the color option?

also I have a habbit of typing cd.. to go up a directory level and it doesnt work. IS there a place i can go and set cd.. to work just like cd .. I hve a feeeling these are in the same place and releated.

Thanks ahead of time. This has got to be the best linux community I've been in :D

ok I figgured this out as soon as I posted it. :) thanks anyways :P

Can probably be done elsewhere too, I set mine in ~/.bash_profile:
Code:
alias ls="ls -FC --color=always"
Not sure how creative you can get with aliases.
Code:
alias cd..="cd .."
seems to work.

Or you could convert to zsh and then you could just type
..
to move up one directory. Plus zsh has some other really cool stuff so I would recommend checking it out.
