You didn't say what Nvidia driver you emerged?
Not all drivers will work with every card.

Don't know if you did this command
Code:
etc-update

Don't know if you ran this command
Code:
eselect opengl set nvidia

Probably need the
Code:
emerge --info

These are just some of the things that we would need info on to enable us to help you.

There are also settings that you might have to add in the Kernel for it to work if this info isn't there now.

well, my kernel is set to work with the radeon driver, so agpgart is compiled in, drm is compiled in for radeon, support for frame buffer devices is marked, but there are no devices compiled

The nvidia-drivers should complain if you have drm compiled into your kernel as they are incompatible. Unfortunately, you may have to rebuild your kernel before the nvidia-drivers run.

Also, I noticed in your Xorg.0.log that everything ran fine. What version of xorg-server do you have and have you tried letting dbus take care of everything?

Regards,

Alunduil

Ok, I've built another kernel without drm and framebuffer.
Now, the nvidia driver works, but I have no direct rendering yet. It still has the mesa glx.

Do you have the hald started? Also, just double checking that you're using the nvidia opengl interface?

yes, hald is running
well i tried with emerge nvidia-drivers and then "eselect opengl set nvidia", but that didn't work
now i have an installation made by running the install package(that has the ncurses interface) with sh

so now i have:
Code:

Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   xorg-x11 *

but the nvidia installer should handle this, i guess

Why didn't the emerge nvidia-drivers work? You mentioned that you were using the nvidia sh installer directly which means that the opengl stuff would need to be setup by hand.

I've reinstalled nvidia-drivers with emerge and set the nvidia interface, but it produces the same mesa glx.

It probably does have the same GLX info but what is the new Xorg.0.log with the eselect opengl set nvidia?

Are there new errors?

advise..
Section "Module"
.........
Disable "dri2"
Disable "dri"
.......
EndSection
I have already installed the driver for mx 440, like the same driver version or older. The kernel must be compiled without support nvidea.

Try this for your xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
Identifier "nvidia"
Driver "nvidia"
EndSection

And post back the Xorg.0.log if it fails for some reason.

ldd /usr/bin/glxgears
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xb77e7000)
libGL.so.1 => /usr/local/lib/libGL.so.1 (0xb752a000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0xb7504000)
libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 (0xb73e8000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0xb73cf000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb728a000)
libXext.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXext.so.6 (0xb7279000)

libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xb7250000)

so it seems i have some mesa package in the system which i was installed by hand, and forgot to uninstall :oops: , and applications are built against it
i didn't realize that glxinfo mentions mesa 7.0.2, but i have mesa 7.5.2 from portage 8O

any suggestions alunduil? :)

Is there any chance you still have the build directory and can do a make uninstall? If so I recommend that, otherwise you'll have to rebuild the source build and then using the install log remove those files by hand (or some BASH trickery). After that remerge mesa and then revdep-rebuild should take care of everything (crossing my fingers).

you mean compile the 7.0.2 by hand?
what if i build the 7.0.2 by hand, install it, then make an unistall, then revdep-rebuild
no, i don't have the 7.0.2 build files

anyway, it will be fun :)

or while it is dynamically linked, jus change the symlink to point at /usr/lib/libGL.so(it is already pointing at the nvidia libGL)

hurray, it's working :)

Thank you for the help, Alunduil!

update: no, it's not working. I've tried nexuiz and regnum online, and after a minute X was frozen. I had to reset.
So back to radeon again. :(

ok, it's working...
Maybe it was a BIOS setting, or xorg.conf problem. And i've put a ventilator to the graphics card, too :)
