Hello,

I have Xorg 1.8 installed because it doesn't work with HAL.
But now im trying to install Gnome 2.28 and I see that HAL is emerged,

Can I have Gnome 2.28 without HAL so I can upgrade it to Gnome 2.30 without HAL.

If you want to get away from hal, why don't you try gnome-2.30.x which works without hal?
Anyway I removed hal while I was on 2.28.1 with Xorg 1.8, and it was fine.
Edit : I think if you remove hal after you upgrade to gnome 2.28.1 and then remove hal and update to 2.30.x, everthing will be fine.

Hello Keenblade,

I want to try gnome 2.30 but I don't know how to install it.
So what i try is emerge gnome 2.28 , then layman -a gnome and then update the whole box.

Im working on ~amd64.

I'm on ~amd64 with gnome 2.30. Gnome was installed with gnome-base/gnome-light with hal flag long before. Then recently I added gnome overlay and it upgraded gnome packages to 2.30.x.
I understand you removed hal and having problems installing gnome 2.28. If so, I again suggest you enable hal useflag globally for gnome and disable hal for some few packages (that are outside of gnome like xorg) on per package basis. So only gnome 2.28 will use the hal flag, and will not fail to emerge. Then remove hal useflag, add gnome overlay and update world.
