Half my system was broken for several weeks due to upgrading libpng. Yes there are many other threads similar to my problem, but I wanted to just put the simple solution here, since for me, lafilefixer, revdep-rebuild, USE="apng", and many other attempts completely failed. If you've got the same problem, (bittorrent wont' run, because wx-python cannot import libpng, or compiz won't run because of libpng 5 libraries beneath it ), try this:
emerge -1 libpng:1.2
good luck.
PS - thanks to the smart guy(s) that posted that command in another thread which helps out the dummies like me that only know how to copy/paste. |

After you've reinstalled the old libraries to make things work again, I'd recommend manually copying them out and copying them back in after upgrading libpng - that way the programs compiled against the old libraries will still run until you've rebuilt everything, and then you can delete the old libraries for good. It kinda sucks that these sort of upgrades aren't handled more automatically, but that's just how it is right now. |
