I've been trying to watch NRK video streams from my location in Germany.

Yesterday, things worked, though not very well. I am using the gecko-mediaplayer plugin (0.9.9.2) for Firefox 3.6.3.

I was able to watch the streams with mplayer, from the command-line.

Now, a day later, none of them work at all. This results in the well-known and infuriating "Caching 0 - bla - 100% Stopped" behaviour, which is simply repeated when I click play again. In mplayer, the output looks like this:

Code:
mplayer "mms://straumod.nrk.no/disk11/apokalypse_verden_i_krig/geoblokk/2010-04-12/NRK2_201004122230_KOID_220100_09_180_1000.wmv"
MPlayer SVN-r29796-4.3.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

**** Your system is too SLOW to play this!  ****
           ************************************************

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
  - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
  - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
  - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
  - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
  - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
  - Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
  - Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips.
If none of this helps you, read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html.

You can ignore the "slow" message - the stream slowed down due to some network congestion, but the video was still playing.

Are *you* able to play this video? Somebody from outside Norway would be preferable, that'd be a more representative test, but I'll take any advice I can get.

It appears to be a geo IP block which is applied inconsistently. Perhaps they are doing it based on bandwidth.

Guess Norwegians abroad are out of luck :(

You should ask them about it, its ridiculous to block foreign IPs. I have to pay 2000+ NOK a year to those guys, so I should be free to watch NRK online from wherever I wanted. And so should you.

Maybe you could use one of these http://www.aliveproxy.com/proxy-list/proxies.aspx/Norway-no
