I have installed various versions of evolution from 1.2.3-1.4.4 and the most recent gnucash. I have uninstalled all dependencies and reinstalled them again several times testing various versions. I have installed firebird and mozilla and neither (using the nss and nspr instead). Regardless I get teh same result.

Evolution seg faults immediately after start-up. When I use gdb to debug, it gives an error saying that gnome-canvas.c is not found, which is the truth, since I can't find it anywhere and reinstalling libgnomecanvas does no good. I have tried every even vague reference to a fix found on google and here, such as the evolution --force-shutdown and killev combinations. Also, a evolution --debug debug.txt produces no output.

Gnucash also seg-faults on start-up, pegging guile as the culpret. It is similar.....the only thing close is what I've seen herehttps://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=78893&highlight=gnucash except that this is a compile error, whereas mine compile fine and just won't run.

Any help appreciated, I apologize for the lack of more details...but I am in the process of removing every single trace of gnome from my computer and giving it another go......if more detailed (please give instructions on what to do) info is needed I'll be sure to put it up shortly.

:D krunk,
have you had gnucash working on this pc... ever?

what does an
Code:
emerge -p evolution
give you?

what kernel sources and version are you using?

What is the output of
Code:
uname -a
?

What version (exactly) of each program are you compiling?

 I am currently installing evolution... gnucash runs fine for me...

I have a presario 920us notebook - AMD_Athlon-XP: ATI/U1 Mobility video... 512Mb RAM... ALI chipset... wolk-sources 2.4.20-wolk4.0s...

:)

Both have run on this system before...but not on this install. (I had to do a fresh install). I made sure to delete all the folders containing config files in my home directory.

I have currently emerged -C all gnome packages, If I went with a collection of someones working binaries maybe I could do it that way. But when I do a emerge -K evolution, there are none available :(

gnucash crashed on me when using x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r3, when I backported to x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r2 it worked fine.

btw make sure you are not running too many unstable packages, especially system packages.
